What are the common themes in your work?

Consumerism is a focus. We are living in a society full of consumerism. Not just here; it is the same all over the world. The phenomenon is happening everywhere. My work looks at people’s understanding of consumerism, how companies try to sell their products, and how people see these companies.

Sharif’s artworks move beyond the limits of discipline or singular approach, encompassing performance, installation, drawing, painting, and assemblage. Since the late 1970s, he’s maintained a practice as a cultural producer and facilitator, moving between roles as artist, educator, critic, activist and mentor to contemporary artists in the United Arab Emirates. He will be exhibiting at Art Dubai 2012.
